Questions about Relaxation Dentistry

Serving Phoenix, Mesa, Tempe and Scottsdale, Arizona

Phoenix Relaxation DentistWhat are the advantages of relaxation dentistry?

Many people suffer from fear of the dentist, often due to having experienced a traumatic visit at some point, usually during childhood. Relaxation dentistry allows these people to undergo important and necessary dental work without stress or fear. Even people who've avoided the dentist for years due to debilitating anxiety can have dental work done without emotional discomfort.

Can I have more than one procedure done at the same time?

Yes. In fact, this is one of the major advantages of relaxation dentistry. If you've put off going to the dentist for a long time - years of avoidance isn't uncommon among patients with dental anxiety - you might have several issues that need to be taken care of. Your state of complete relaxation can allow Dr. LeSueur or Dr. Dodaro to address several things in one session. Because you're relaxed, the work will take less time, so your dentist can be much more efficient.

Will I be completely unconscious during my dental work?

No. Dr. LeSueur and Dr. Dodaro use procedures known as anxiolysis (minimal relaxation) or conscious relaxation (moderate relaxation). You'll be given a mild sedative in pill form, and/or you'll receive nitrous oxide during your procedure. Both these approaches will leave you completely relaxed and in a floaty, almost dream-like state, but you will remain conscious. You'll be able to respond to the dentist's instructions, and many times you'll remember little or none of your procedure afterwards. Time will pass much more quickly, and you won't experience any stress or anxiety at all.

What is Dr. LeSueur's level of experience with relaxation dentistry?

Dr. LeSueur belongs to the Dental Organization for Conscious Relaxation (DOCS), and has had many experiences with relaxation dentistry. Dr. LeSueur does not use IV or general anesthetic, as the risks inherent in these methods are much greater than for use of a sedative or nitrous oxide. Dr. LeSueur will provide an anxiety-free experience and help you overcome your fear of the dentist.
