Phoenix Cosmetic DentistAs much as we’d like it to be so, our teeth won’t stay perfect forever. We can keep them healthy with diligent oral hygiene and regular visits to the dentist, but everyday wear and tear, traumatic injury, various accidental impacts, or even the side effects of some medications can cause them to become severely discolored, chipped, or cracked. In cases such as these, dental veneers can be a good solution that will have your teeth looking like new again with minimal discomfort and very little time in the dentist’s chair.

The experienced dental team of Dr. LeSueur and Dr. Dodaro should be contacted if you are interested in finding out more about dental veneers.

Dental veneers are fingernail-thin shells custom-made to fit the size and shape of your teeth. Dr. LeSueur or Dr. Dodaro makes an impression of your teeth, then, through digital photography and careful modeling, veneers are made in a lab that will match the color of your teeth and provide a smooth, undamaged surface to give you a bright new smile again.

Dental Veneer Procedure

Applying dental veneers is a simple, painless procedure. Generally it takes two dental visits. On the first visit, your teeth will be made ready to receive the veneers. A thin layer of enamel is removed from the tooth’s surface many times. This can be done without anesthetic, but if you’re more comfortable with anesthetic, let the doctor know.

After the teeth are properly prepared, a mold is made from which your permanent veneers will be made. Then Dr. LeSueur or Dr. Dodaro attaches temporary veneers to protect the surface of your teeth until the permanent veneers are placed.

After your permanent, custom-made veneers are completed, you’ll make another visit to have them affixed. A special bonding agent ensures the veneers will stay firmly in place as the agent bonds with the surface of the tooth. While porcelain veneers by themselves are quite delicate, the bonding agent makes them strong and durable.

Some advantages of dental veneers over other methods of resurfacing a tooth include:

  • Very little restructuring of the tooth is required, unlike dental crowns
  • The porcelain is semi-translucent, giving your restored tooth a natural look
  • Porcelain veneers are maybe more expensive than traditional crowns

If you have chipped, cracked, pitted or severely discolored teeth, please contact Phoenix, Arizona area cosmetic dentists Dr. Scott LeSueur and Dr. Charles Dodaro for more information on how dental veneers can help restore your bright, natural smile.
