Will I Need My Crowns Replaced?

Under most circumstances, you can expect a dental crown to last from five to fifteen years. Much of this depends on the function of the tooth the crown is covering along with how well you care for your crown. You can help dental crowns last longer by not chewing on ice or other hard objects, maintaining proper dental hygiene, and visiting our Scottsdale dentists for twice yearly cleanings and examinations. However, dental crowns do not generally last for a lifetime.

When to Replace a Crown

You may wish to consider replacing a dental crown if it has become:

  • Loose
  • Worn down
  • Broken or cracked
  • Decayed around the edges

You may also wish to replace a dental crown if it has become discolored or is no longer cosmetically appealing. Unlike natural teeth, a crown cannot be whitened, making it a good idea to replace it once it becomes dingy or stained.

In some cases, we may recommend replacing a crown due to issues we detect during your regular office visits. However, if you feel that a crown needs to be replaced in between visits, we would be happy to schedule an examination at any time.

If you live in the Scottsdale, Arizona area and need to replace a dental crown, please contact Scott LeSueur D.D.S & Charles Dodaro, D.D.S. today to schedule an office visit.
