Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) occurs when the airways become blocked during sleep. Symptoms of OSA include loud snoring in addition to:

  • Sporadic periods of breath cessation
  • Choking and gasping for air
  • Chronic daytime fatigue
  • Frequent morning headaches

If you are suffering from any of these symptoms, call (480) 834-6991 today to schedule your sleep apnea treatment consultation with one of our experienced Mesa dentists.

Risk Factors for OSA

Risk factors for OSA include having a family history of the disorder, being a male, and genetic factors like neck circumference. Other risk factors include :

  • Smoking
  • Alcohol and sedative use
  • Obesity

Properly treating this most common type of sleep apnea typically requires a combination of therapeutic treatments and lifestyle changes. Increasing physical activity, quitting smoking, and significantly reducing alcohol consumption can increase the efficacy of noninvasive treatment options such as oral splints and mouthguards. How you can bolster your OSA treatment will be discussed in greater detail during your appointment with Dr. LeSueur or Dr. Dodaro.

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms of sleep apnea, please contact Scott T. LeSueur, DDS and Charles A. Dodaro, DDS to schedule a treatment consultation today. We serve Phoenix, Tempe, Scottsdale, and surrounding areas of Arizona from our centrally located Mesa office.
